The sixth annual Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards will once again shine a spotlight on our county’s apprentices - and the businesses and organisations, training providers and schools that support their journey - recognising the huge contribution they make to our county’s economy at a live virtual ceremony on Thursday 19 May 2022.
We're delighted to introduce Harwell Science and Innovation Campus as sponsor of the School / College Engagement Employer Award. Harwell is a place where experimentation is encouraged and technology is developed that transforms people's lives.
Here, Dawn Crawford, Construction & Environment Manager at Harwell, explains why the campus has chosen to sponsor this Award and what apprenticeships mean to them.
Why are you supporting the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards and why you have chosen to sponsor your particular category?
We believe in the power of inspiring and demonstrating possibilities to young people of all ages and abilities.
Using outreach to inspire and engage young people is an important part of our CSR activities alongside STEM engagement. Inspiring the younger generation and helping them to understand what is possible and where their academic studies can take them, is a key part of our role working within a community and helping it to thrive. As a campus it’s important that we continue to sustain a pipeline of technical talent and skilled individuals for the broader benefit of the UK economy.
What are you looking for in the winner of your category?
We’re looking for creative and engaging projects that employers have created to reach out young people, across the different industry sectors.
We would want to see evidence that young people and apprentices are engaged and took real value from the project.
What would you say to anyone thinking about entering or nominating?
We want to be wowed; we are looking for projects that inspire the next generation. For us, without a pipeline of talented and skilled people Harwell cannot grow and thrive.
We are not looking for a particular sector and would welcome nominations and applications from a range of areas including science and innovation, medical, construction design and build, environmental, energy or service industries.
Tell us about your organisation’s experience of Apprenticeships
Harwell Campus has many organisations and occupiers working as part of the Skills Strategy Group which supports a wide range of apprenticeships in many sectors. We work closely with many training providers including The Oxfordshire Advanced Skills Apprentice Training Centre (OAS).
