The sixth annual Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards will once again shine a spotlight on our county’s apprentices - and the businesses and organisations, training providers and schools that support their journey - recognising the huge contribution they make to our county’s economy at a live virtual ceremony on Thursday 19 May 2022.
We're delighted to introduce Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) as a sponsor of the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards 2022. JDE is a global coffee and tea company, serving consumers in more than 80 countries through iconic brands including: Jacobs, Tassimo, L'OR and Douwe Egberts. For more than 265 years, JDE has been inspired by the belief that it’s amazing what can happen over a cup of coffee!
Here, Keith Fisher, Apprentice Manager at JDE, explains why the company has chosen to sponsor the Awards and what apprenticeships mean to them.
Why are you supporting the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards?
We have had apprentices at JDE for a very long time and feel that we should be promoting both our scheme and the benefit to all apprenticeships.
What are your organisations experiences of Apprenticeships?
We have had apprentices at JDE for over 35 years. We started when we were known as General Foods and have continued to employ and train apprentices ever since.
What would you say to anyone thinking about entering or nominating?
Anyone thinking about an apprenticeship should jump at the opportunity! We have taken on a lot of both mechanical and electrical biased apprentices - many have stayed as technicians, but a very large number have also progressed into management roles, one ex apprentice is now a plant manager in Australia. There are great opportunities to progress through the business and it all began because they started their journey as an apprentice.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
JDE is very excited to be a part of the OxLEP group to promote apprenticeships throughout Oxfordshire.
