The sixth annual Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards will once again shine a spotlight on our county’s apprentices - and the businesses and organisations, training providers and schools that support their journey - recognising the huge contribution they make to our county’s economy at a live virtual ceremony on Thursday 19 May 2022.
We're delighted to introduce global leader in medical device design and manufacturer Owen Mumford as sponsor of the Training Provider Individual Award, a new category for 2022 which will recognise colleagues working for organisations that provide apprenticeship training in Oxfordshire (colleges, universities, employer providers and independent training providers) who go the extra mile to support and encourage apprentices and enable individuals to achieve to their potential.
Owen Mumford is dedicated to providing innovative healthcare solutions for the management of a variety of medical conditions. With one of the most advanced global research, design and manufacturing capabilities that delivers innovation successfully to improve quality of life, encourage patient compliance, prevent infection and reduce healthcare costs, they make a world of difference to a world of people.
Here, Karen Baker, Human Resources Business Parter at Owen Mumford, explains why the company has chosen to sponsor this Award and what apprenticeships mean to them.
Why are you supporting the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards and why you have chosen to sponsor your particular category?
Owen Mumford understands the value in supporting careers in their early development and the apprenticeship programme is an essential tool that links education with practical, on-the-job-learning. Each year the company welcomes a minimum of four apprentices across engineering and as it looks to expand into other divisions of the business. Networking with OxLEP and other businesses with similar goals and values is an excellent way to build and share knowledge.
The category Owen Mumford has selected, the Training Provider Individual Award, is fundamental to the success of an apprentice. The company has worked with a variety of organisations focusing on apprenticeships and is proud to support providers who offer a truly valuable experience.
What are you looking for in the winner of your category?
Training providers need to be committed to the educational part of their role, but also provide a personal touch with their students. We are looking for someone from a provider that offers an insightful course, is personable and supportive of their learners and an excellent communicator with a passion for providing the best possible experience for students.
What would you say to anyone thinking about entering or nominating?
The Awards is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of a provider’s offering, network with peers and ultimately support young apprentices looking to enter important industries.
Tell us about your organisation’s experience of Apprenticeships
Owen Mumford has welcomed apprentices into the business for decades and values the insight and perspective it gains from the experience. Many of the company’s apprentices are now employees whose valuable acumen has helped shaped the business into what it is today. Observing an apprentice as they develop their skillset and forge their path within the company is incredibly rewarding for everyone at Owen Mumford.
