The Oxfordshire Local Industrial Strategy sets out the ambition to position the county as one of the top-three global innovation ecosystems due to its potential in numerous key sectors particularly the four transformative technologies: quantum computing connected and autonomous vehicles digital health and space and satellites.
Oxfordshire is also home to a thriving visitor economy due to its world-renowned assetswith a recent Experience Oxfordshire report revealing an increase of 5.1% to visitor spend in 2018taking the value of visitor economy spend in the county to £2.28bn.
Opportunities such as the Oxfordshire Energy Strategy can make the county’s economy even stronger creating employment offers for local communities along with initiatives providing greater access to new markets for Oxfordshire businesses through projects such as ‘OxFutures’.
OxFutures an ERDF-funded project led by the Low Carbon Hub is a headline project as part of the delivery of the Oxfordshire Energy Strategy and is made up of Oxfordshire Greentech a new low-carbon business network and Oxfordshire GreenFundwhich offers low-carbon feasibility funding for new start-ups and established firms developing new products and services.
With the potential to grow four times faster than the projected growth of the whole UK economythe low-carbon economy is set to grow up to 11% per year over the next decadea clear indicator of the role the Oxfordshire Energy Strategy plays in the county and its ‘world-class potential’.
